about

Owen Steib sitting on a brownstone stoop at night, playing an acoustic guitar

Owen Steib is an 18-year-old songwriter and guitarist from New York City, and by his own description a 90s kid born too late. His ear showed up early. As a toddler he cried when people sang “Happy Birthday” because it was loud and out of tune. That sensitivity turned into an obsession with the small details in a record, the ear candy most listeners feel without noticing. It led him to the guitar and to writing his own songs, and he hasn’t put it down since.

Now a high school senior, Owen writes as a storyteller, with Pearl Jam as a particular inspiration. His touchstones run from Jimmy Eat World, Deep Blue Something, and Tom Petty to Cameron Winter, and his songs chase the feeling of moving fast and taking in everything at once.

His debut single “Jolie” is out now, the first from his upcoming EP.
